Alberta Association of Fundraising Executives

Following an extensive consultation with our membership, the AAFRE Board has come to the difficult decision to dissolve the Association of Fund Raising Executives as of end of the current fiscal year, August 31, 2013. In coming to this decision, our membership clarified what they are looking for from their professional association and it became clear that AAFRE is no longer in the position to meet those needs. The Board looked at two primary issues: 1) What actions would result in the best outcomes for individual fund raising professionals, the organizations they work for and the community in which those organizations operate? 2) How do we meet the needs of our membership? This would mean an enormous influx of energy from both the current Board of Directors and new volunteers to the Board and Committees. Through our research we identified a total of 2 possible new Board members, 2 committee members and 2 offers of adhoc assistance. The Board agreed that pooling the resources (time and financial) of two organizations with very similar mandates (ie. AFP and AAFRE) would result in the best outcomes for our membership. The AAFRE Board encourages all its members to consider the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) as a means to meeting their professional development needs. We also encourage those who stepped forward to assist AAFRE to channel that energy to assisting AFP in understanding and consequently meeting the specific needs of the AAFRE members. This presentation outlines the process from which this decision evolved as well as the resulting option recommended and ultimately chosen by the Board.
