Interim Executive Director

Summit Housing & Outreach Programs is a non-profit charitable organization that provides a variety of housing, treatment and outreach case management services to individuals who require mental health supports in the Halton Region.

Summit is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is primarily funded through the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).  Its services are based on a flexible, rehabilitative model of support and are tailored to meet the varied needs of the people it serves.

Today, a $4 million organization, Summit offers a wide variety of housing options in Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Georgetown and Acton with 250 apartments. In addition, it provides a variety of case management services which includes assertive community treatment throughout the Region of Halton.

Due to a maternity leave, the Board of Directors is looking for an Interim Executive Director to start late September for one year. Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Professional Attributes, Experience & Education

  • Strong leadership experience:  Minimum of 7 – 9 years of experience in senior leadership positions with a similar sector in non-profit or human services/mental health. Past Executive Director experience a tremendous asset.
  • Understanding of working successfully with LHINs and MoHLTC
  • A strong coach and leadership skills: capacity to coach senior team
  • Experience in a multi-funded agency and demonstrated experience in strategic and operational planning, human resources & financial management 
  • An articulate communicator (written & verbal) with highly effective presentation and public speaking skills.  Proven ability to relate to diverse groups of people and communicate effectively at all levels
  • Strong experience working with a volunteer non-profit board and an understanding of board governance
  • Excellent relationship builder internally and externally.  Understands the value of internal human resources while representing SHOP in the external community
  • A post-secondary degree, diploma or equivalent in business administration


  • Knowledge of and/or exposure to the non-profit supportive housing and/or mental health sector
  • Experience in general fundraising
  • A compassion for the mental health sector
